The Ring Of Fire Cayenne Pepper is another popular variety in the Cayenne range of Chili Peppers
This Cayenne pepper is one of the early fruiting varieties currently available.
Johnny Cash's famous song "ring of fire" always jumps to mind when I use these chillies... maybe it's the "burn burn burn" bit that gets me.
It's hot, but not that hot... at about 20 000 on the Scoville scale, but each to his own!
This is an early maturing variety (definitely an improvement on the original) and the plant produces masses of Pillar Box Red, glossy 4-5" peppers.
The Fruit on this variety are generally smaller in size than that of the traditional red cayenne pepper.
The Fruit matures from Green to Red in only about 60 days and is therefore an ideal choice for Northern Gardeners and for those with short season growing periods.
The plants grows to approximately 20" in height and have a spread of about 18-20", thus making it fairly compact.
They are very easy to grow provided a basic level of plant care is exercised.
It is believed that this Chili originated in Mexico and the fruit is used in its Green (unripe) form as well as Red.
It is more commonly dried to be used as Chili powder or Chili Flakes.
A good and very productive choice.
